On Saturday I left my kids with Ray while I ventured out to have my hair cut. I am always nervous about having my hair cut, and have had some scary encounters with hair stylists while here in Tremonton. But, I decided I wanted some adult conversation that did not revolve around my kids for a short moment. So, with this in mind and after telling myself that whatever happened my hair would grow back, that the conversation with another grown up person is what I wanted. Well, I showed up at this stylish little place called No Limits, and told them I needed a hair cut. After about a 15 minute wait, they send me to the back where this girl has been sitting reading a magazine in her chair. She seats me, puts my cape on, and starts combing my hair, and then as she picks up her scissors she asks what I want. Well, I am thinking to myself- I want someone to talk tabloids with for a few minutes while you do magic on my hair, but instead tell her that I need to have about an inch and a half cut off with long layers. She steps back looks at my hair and then says OK. She then starts cutting my hair, in silence. So, I start asking her questions like where did you go to school, are you married, and how long have you been doing hair. See, I figure this will open the door to lots of conversation and most important it wont be about my kids that I am away from for a moment. Well, she says quite quickly and very monotone like (I am engaged, Paul Mitchell, One Year, Orem area) and then dead silence. Slow me down, is this the best you can do? So I very nicely say that is cool, my niece almost went to Paul Mitchell, thinking this is where Brandi got her black shirt from. She looks at me and says Oh, and then goes on cutting my hair. Anyway after a lot of miserable silence, and some cutting techniques I don't recall asking for, she tells me I am finished and gives me the famous mirror to check out the back of my hair. I looked at it, only to find that she had cut much more than the requested inch and a half, I quickly said thanks and then gave her mirror back. She then said something like I can tell your confused about why I chipped(?) your hair up around your scalp. I just smiled, and then she said it gives lift to soft hair, all you have to do is rat it a lot and it will look full. I again said thanks and then got up and went and paid and left. Well when Ray finally looked at it he said what happened to the inch and a half you were supposed to have cut off? I said I don't know, I guess she did not understand me. When I asked him how much she took off he said a good six to eight inches. Grrrrrrrr, can someone please tell me how someone so dang rude, and annoying made it through school. Aren't one of the requirements that you are friendly to your customers? Because if it isn't, then it should be. My hair is still below my shoulders, and I know it will grow back, but why in the heck do I always end up with these kind of girls? I didn't even get my adult conversation. :( Dumb Girl. I hope a thousand flees infest her arm pits and she ends up with scabies. ha ha

You are so funny! I am sure your hair looks great. We would love to see a pic of it. It is really hard to find a good hairdresser, one that does a good job and is easy to talk too. Keep looking and I am sure you will find one.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry that you had such a bad experience. Maybe you will have to come to southern utah every few months and have one of our family stylists do it. You can have your pick and talk all you want. ha, ha. No really you should get some referrals from women in your ward that have good styles. You should be able to find at least one good one. Little old Kanab has quite a few I am sorry that I can't send one to you.
ReplyDeleteSorry that you had a bad experience, Being a hairdresser myself, I would never treat my customers that way, I had a bad expierence with a haircut in hair school, lol ok so it was a few lol when I started cutting hair in the salon I had to treat my customers with respect, or we could get fired. We don't know when we are coming down, I just got a job promotion and I have training for the next 2 months.we love you guys and miss you as well, I have finally updated my blog, we have had some computer issues as well as being very busy.
ReplyDeleteExcuse me, but I need PICTURES!! I cannot feel sorry for you or tell you how great it doesn't look if I can't see it! and since you won't come visit, I need pictures. And by the way I'm sure it really doesn't look as bad as you think it does, but that's what you get for not coming down to let your almost professional hairstylist niece cut it for you! :) LOVE YOU!
ReplyDeleteHey I know what you can do next time..I know someone in the family that cuts hair.. and would love to do it for you. But something that always helps me and my clients stay on the same page is a picture. You would be surprised how often a different option of an inch can be to other person. Take a picture out of a magazine of what you want next time so you can have a visual. It will help alot. As for getting the girls right out of school those are the ones that usually take walk in's or new clients so try and get a referral from someone you know. :) Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely hate it when an inch to me, really an inch in length, means 3 or inches to someone else. How on earth do you misjudge an inch? I was never good at math, but I know what an inch is. You'll just have to come down here and get one of us many who can do it for you, the right way. :) You need to post a picture!! Come on already. :)
